Colour Guard

There follows an article by Simon Amos, Band Master for Braintree Dimensions 1989 to 1995. It relates to the whole Band but I have placed it in the Guard section as this is where he now helps the Marxmen or a regular basis. Of cause his talents are worthy of the whole Band. Long may this continue.

Why do we have a Christmas concert?

Well from my point of view it gives the members a chance to learn new music, new styles of music, a chance to refresh old classics from previous shows, in a more relaxed atmosphere. Also the members can show of their skills on other equipment such as electric guitars etc.

And most important having a break from the pressure of “The Show“

This time of year is also a good time to introduce new members to the big band, will they enjoy  it, can they get on, will they hack it, better to find out now than to write a place in “The Show “ for them and they leave in February!

As we don’t do winter guard we also get the guard line involved, small routines to their favourite music, etc in a much more relaxed atmosphere also once again a good opportunity for the younger, new members of the guard to show off their new skills in front of an audience .

All this while work is going on in the back ground as to what the “New Show “ will be!

This is also an opportunity for the new parents to see just what we do, and may be for brothers/sisters to want to get involved, or any other relatives who come along.

And how could I forget it’s an easy way to raise those all important funds.
